First issued in parts beginning in 1822. The same edition is found with title-pages dated 1824, 1825 or 1826. The present copy with letterpress title and etched title both dated '1826' includes a [3]-pp. list of subscribers including Soane. All the plates are signed, some are dated 1822, 1823, 1824, and 1825. The second part, 'Sylva Scotica', consists of 8 pages and 8 plates.

Copy Notes Soane's subscription copy with the plates printed on India paper, and the prospectus issued by Strutt on 1 March 1826 (q.v.) pasted in on front free-endpaper. Purchased from the author No.1 to No. 12 complete, India Proofs for £11 5s., 7 March 1826. (Spiers Box. Miscellaneous Booksellers; also: Jnl 6, p.533).

Binding C19th half diced russia, blind-ruled borders, blind-tooled spine, gilt-lettered, marbled-paper boards. Bound by Hood & McCullock for £1 10s. on 29 March 1826. (Priv. Corr. XVI.E.6.6).
