First published in Paris in 1676--77; the Nouvelle relation de l'intérieur du sérail du Grand Seigneur first published in 1675. Tavernier was a French Huguenot traveller and merchant who undertook six voyages into Turkey, Persia and the East Indies between 1631 and 1668, later publishing the often reprinted and translated narrative of his travels. Each volume of this edition consists of two parts with separate cancel title-pages printed in red and black, not included in the pagination or register. The general engraved title-plate of vol. I has the imprint: 'A Utrecht Chez Guill: Van de Water. Guill: et Jacq: Poolsum. MDCCXII.' The title-page of Tavernier's 'Nouvelle Relation De L'Interieur Du Serrail Du Grand Seigneur' (vol. III, pp. 371--564), which is included in the pagination and register, has the date M.DCC.XII pasted over M.D.CCII.

Copy Notes Bought from T. & W. Boone for £1 4s. on 1 July 1828. (Spiers Box). Volume I inscribed in pencil on front free endpaper 3 Vols 1-4-0/ very scarce Edition. With the engraved Chippendale-style bookplate of P.N. Hemey on the front pastedown of each volume.

Binding C18th mottled calf, blind-ruled borders, gilt tooled spines, red spine-labels.
