This work was published a few months after the author's death (on 3 April 1763) and a bibliography and commemorative inscription are printed on the final leaf, preceded by an impressive list of English subscribers, who considerably outnumber the Roman 'Signori Associati', and was probably still being issued in 1766 when the companion guide to 'Roma Moderna' was published (q.v.). Many of the plates are etchings signed by Piranesi, Duflos or Le Geay, though other inferior artists also contributed. The preliminaries in part 1 include a separately printed unnumbered single leaf address on behalf of Pope Clement XIII signed 'N. Card. Antonellus' with the papal imprint dated 1763. The folded map is not found in all copies and the work may have been available with or without the map. BAL, Early printed books, no. 3411; Berlin Kat. 1891.
