First published in 1747 [i.e. 1748?]; second ed. 1752. Hughs's imprint appears on p. 143. With a dedication to Sir Robert Walpole, 3rd Earl of Orford (1676--1745) from his son Horace Walpole, dated 'Aug. 24, 1743'. The text includes Walpole's 'Description of Houghton-Hall' and 'Sermon on Painting' and The Rev. John Whaley's poem, 'A Journey to Houghton'. The plates engraved by George Vertue (1684--1756); the portraits of Sir Robert and Lady Catherine Walpole (d. 1737) from paintings by Christian Friedrich Zink (d.1767) made in 1744 and 1735 respectively and engraved in 1748.
