WHITAKER, Thomas Dunham (1759--1821)
[History of Richmondshire. Advertisement]
Prospectus of A general history of the county of York. By Thomas Dunham Whitaker, ...
[London]: [1816].
4 p. ; 27.5 cm. (4º)

Half-sheet, folded, with drop-head title. This prospectus describes at length Whitaker's projected seven-volume history of the whole county, which he intended would supplement the volumes he had already published or edited on the subject, and which he proposed would be graced throughout with 'subjects of landscape and architecture' drawn by J.M.W. Turner and J.C. Buckler. The first two volumes only, on the North Riding, were eventually published posthumously in 1823 as An history of Richmondshire, in the North Riding of the country of York, including 20 engravings after Turner. No copy of any of Whitaker's works is present in Soane's library.

Copy Notes No copy is present in Soane's library.

Binding Folded bifolium.
