The date 1732--3 is suggested by E. H. Cordeaux and D. H. Merry, A bibliography of printed works relating to the University of Oxford (1968), no. 293. The work was planned from the early 1720s, and was intended to update David Loggan's Oxonia illustrata, 1675 (q.v.). In a later state most of the plates were numbered. BAL, Early printed books, no. 3667; ESTC n72326.
Copy Notes Inscribed in ink on front pastedown /A=f=o/; on free-endpaper in ink E Libris/ E Taylor/Coll: Di: Joh: Bapt:/Oxon:/ 17. June. 1768; and in pencil £2:2:0. Inscribed in ink on title-plate Elliot Taylor. St: Johns Coll: Oxford; and similarly on rear paste-down endpaper. See V. Sillery St John's College Biographical Register, 1660--1775, Oxford, 1990, where it notes that one Elliott Taylor died on 9 February 1770. This may have been the father or the son whose matriculation is dated 9 April 1767 aged 18.
Binding C18th mottled calf, double gilt-rule borders and spine, red morocco spine-label.
