Dedicated to Cardinal Alessandro Albani to whom Winckelmann was appointed librarian in 1758. After Winckelmann's death the plates and unsold sheets were acquired and copies continued to be sold by Generoso Salomoni, and some copies, as here, are bound up with a group of tracts on the the Villa Albani by P.S. Raffei also published by Salomoni, with which copies of the present work appear to have been available as an informal supplement after 1779. A French translation was published in 1808--9 (q.v.). Title-page printed in red and black. Volume II colophon: Nella stamperia di Marco Pagliarini. BAL, Early printed books, no. 3688.

Binding C18th diced russia, gilt double-rule and roll-tooled borders, gilt tooled and lettered spines with urn motif. Uniformly bound with the third volume of supplementary tracts (see above). Josiah Taylor was paid 9s. 6d. for binding on 23 November 1804. (Priv. Corr. XVI.E.1).
