Zanetti, Antonio Maria (1706--1778)
[Varie pitture. 1778]
Varie pitture a fresco de' principali maestri Veneziani ora la prima volta con le stampe pubblicate.
In Venezia (Place), 1760 [i.e. 1778 or later].
[2], XII p., engr. t.-pl., engr. frontis. port., 24 etch. pl. ; 46.5 cm. (2°)

First printed anonymously for private circulation in 1760 (q.v.). This posthumously-issued edition has the title-plate and plates of the earlier edition unaltered, but the letterpress 'Notizie intorno alla presente Raccolta' is in a different setting (catchword on p.[I]: 'ei'). With a woodcut factotum initial on p. [I] and woodcut decorative tail-piece on p. XII. A single-page 'Memoria' of Antonio Maria Zanetti by his younger brother Girolamo has also been added, together with an engraved memorial self-portrait signed 'Joannes de Plano sculpsit'. The 'Memoria' states that 'La presente Opera fu immaginata, disegnata, illustrata, e per alquanti esemplari, mentre vivea, miniata da Anton-Maria Zanetti ...'. BAL suggests a date of a few years after 1778, possibly c. 1785 based on a possible identification of the engraver of the portrait with Giovanni Maria de' Pian, born in June 1764 and active in Vienna after 1797, and on a possible connection between the present work and a copy now in the British Library of Gaetano Zompini, Le arti che vanno per via nella città di Venezia, 1785 (q.v.). See BAL, Early printed books, no. 3739 and addenda, p. 2510.
