Volumes IV and VI only. Previous editions of Dryden's dramatic works (some are described as 'operas in heroic verse') in six volumes duodecimo are recorded in 1717 and 1725 with the editor's dedication signed 'William Congreve' (ESTC). Each play has a separate title-page dated 1735. Woodcut title-page portrait vignettes of the author. 'Oedipus' is by Dryden and Nathaniel Lee jointly. The word 'Tragedy' in the title of 'Oedipus' in vol. IV is in black; a variant has this in red. The engraved frontispieces to each play by Gerard van der Gucht after Hubert Gravelot are included in the register and pagination. ESTC n64336; H. Binding C18th sprinkled calf, gilt double-ruled borders, gilt-tooled spine compartments with wreathed dolphin tool and coronet, red morocco spine-labels.
