Cordier was an early French Protestant who joined Calvin and Beza in Geneva and took charge of the organisation of public education. His 'colloquial' method was systematically followed for the learning of Latin over many editions. John Stirling, Master of St. Andrew's School, Holborn, produced one of several English editions in the eighteenth-century for use in schools. Eight pages of publisher's advertisements dated 'March 25, 1737' at the end. ESTC n38053.

Copy Notes Inscribed in ink on the front pastedown John Soane and on the title-page John Soan[e] 1766, the 'e' added subsequently. Inscribed also by John Soane, junior J Soane July 14, 1800. Some ink annotations in an indentified hand.

Binding C18th sheep, blind double-ruled borders.
