The frontispiece shows the Moor strangling Desdemona. At end three pages of 'Plays Octavo, printed for the Proprietors, at 1s. 6d. each'. ESTC t169477.

Copy Notes Bound (3) in a collection of plays comprising Sir John Vanbrugh, The city wives conspiracy, 1765 (q.v.), Nicholas Rowe, Tamerlane, 1770 (q.v.), and George Lillo, The London merchant, 17--? (q.v.). Previously stab-stitched. Inscribed in ink on recto of frontispiece in a youthful hand with a calligraphic flourish JSoan, trimmed at the top in the binding; a similar inscription on the fly-leaf of another volume containing three plays by Susanna Centlivre (q.v.) and one by Sir John Vanbrugh is dated 1777, suggesting that the play may have been acquired by Soane around this date and bound by him together with the others in this volume at some later date. A metal pin is inserted through pages 33--38, possibly to prevent the loss of the conjugate leaves B6.7.

Binding C18th half sheep, marbled-paper boards, gilt-ruled spine, olive morocco spine-label, gilt-lettered spine-title reading 'Plays'.
