Volume II only. Copies of this collected edition of Farquhar's comedies are made up of separate editions of the plays, and the contents vary from copy to copy. Each play has a separate dated title-page, pagination and register, with an engraved frontispiece which is counted in the pagination and register. The frontispieces where signed are by Gerard Van der Gucht and Isaac Basire. Contents vary. In this copy of vol. II the contents are 'The Recruiting Officer' (1733), 'Sir Harry Wildair' (1735), 'The Inconstant' (1736), and 'The Twin-Rivals' (1736). In this copy the edition of 'The Recruiting Officer' has the head-piece on p. [11] depicting a woman on a tower, and the edition of 'The Twin Rivals' has page 62 misnumbered 60. 'The Inconstant' is an adaptation of John Fletcher's The wild goose chase. ESTC t34939.
