Originally published in 1613. Probably drafted by John Marston and completed by William Barksted [Barkstead] and Lewis Machin, who are variously named as the author in other editions. The last leaf [K2] is blank. Entered 10 February. [1631]. ESTC s112259; STC 17478; Greg I, 315 (cI); Pforzheimer 658.

Copy Notes Lacking the final blank leaf. Inscribed in ink in a late C18th or early C19th hand(?) on the second front free-endpaper facing the title-page Mr. Kemble has a copy of this / Play with the name of 'Wm. Barksted' / printed in the title-page which probably refers to another edition of 1631 (ESTC s112261) with the title-page reading [The] insatiate countesse. A tragedy: acted, at White-Friers. Written, by VVilliam Barksteed; this copy, collated by J.P. Kemble (1757--1823) in 1802 is now at the Henry E. Huntington Library and Art Gallery. Earlier inscriptions and annotations in ink, passim: on title-page verso the name Jane and In time[s] of old that hath / been told thus. Amor Uincit omnia; doodles and numbers on B4v; a sum on C2r; William Lewis Anwylt on D1r; on E1r How many yards make 1 mile and the initial N repeated; on G3v Parry and Byron's [illegible], also hieroglyphs resembling ideograms. Probably acquired as one of a group of quarto plays printed around 1630, all in similar bindings and bearing similar ownership inscriptions and marks suggesting they may have been previously bound together and broken up for separate sale.

Binding C19th half calf, cerise paste-paper boards, gilt double-ruled spine with title and date in gilt.
