A defense by Collier of his controversial work A short view of the immorality and profaneness of the English stage which was first published in 1698 (q.v.) and drew numerous responses, written in reply to another of his 'adversaries', James Drake's The ancient and modern stages survey'd, 1699. ESTC r20776; Wing C5262.

Copy Notes Bound (2) with A defence of The short view ... [2nd ed.], 1705 (q.v.) and A farther vindication ..., 1708 (q.v.) in a volume bought from W. Boone together with a copy of 'Collier on the Stage' (q.v.) for 4s. 6d. on 19 January 1822. (Priv. Corr. XVI.E.4.11).

Binding C18th calf, blind double-ruled borders with blind roll-tooling parallel to spine, dark red spine-label with spine-title 'Collier's Defence'.
