Originally published 1709. A sequel was published in 1711 with the title Mar-plot. Frontispiece engraving by J. June. A list of plays printed for T. Lowndes on final verso. 'The Busybody became one of Garrick's favourite plays; it was performed more than 450 times before 1800 and ran into forty editions before 1884' (ODNB). ESTC n15301.

Copy Notes Bound (3) with editions of The artifice, 1735 (q.v.) and The wonder: a woman keeps a secret, 1766 (q.v.), both by Centlivre, and of The provok'd wife by Sir John Vanburgh, 1761 (q.v.). The volume is inscribed in ink on the front free-endpaper with calligraphic flourishes J Soan - 1777.

Binding C18th calf, gilt-tooled spine compartments, red morocco spine-label, gilt-lettered 'Plays'.
