Translated by Hudson Gurney. First edition published in 1799 (in both 4° and 8°), initially competing against another translation by Thomas Taylor, first issued in 1795. The frontispiece is captioned 'Ex Dactyliotheca Ducis Marlburiensis' and engraved by Geremia after G.B. Cipriani, the plate is engraved by L. Legoux. ESTC t133193.

Copy Notes Bookseller's hieroglyph (?) in pencil on front pastedown H/T 1[over]s. Lower cover with inscription in ink 4/8/[?] partly obscured by spine-cover.

Binding Original C19th blue paper boards, later white paper spine.
