Translation originally published in 1688. Volume I includes preface, poem to Madame Dacier by Fraguier, and a translation with footnotes of Suetonius' life of Terence. Frontispiece in vol. I engraved by G. Fritzsch. With separate half-titles for each work. French and Latin text on opposite pages. Title-pages printed in red and black. Many of the plates in the Soane copy are poorly impressed.
Copy Notes Inscribed in ink on front free-endpaper of vol. I John Soane / 1796 and on title-page J. Soane. Inscribed on title-pages of vols I and II in ink 1792 and an earlier ownership inscription mostly rubbed out.
Binding C18th sprinkled calf, gilt-tooled spine compartments, brown and black spine-labels.
