Thomas Creech's translation of Lucretius first appeared in 1682. Following his death in 1700, the text was expanded and '... the verses in the text which Mr. Creech had left untranslated are supplied, and many new notes added, by another hand' (Lowndes, 1411). Volume II has separate, dated title-page with imprint 'Printed by John Matthews, for George Sawbridge'. Pagination and register are continuous. Volume I title-page ornament: Minerva Londinensis. In another issue, the title-page is in a different set of type and the ornament is a bowl of flowers. Pages 244--245 are misnumbered 144--145. ESTC t49794.

Binding C18th sprinkled calf, gilt double-ruled borders and spines, gilt-tooled spine ornaments, brown spine-labels.
