Apart from the first nine plates in vol. I the plates in vols I and II are numbered in one sequence 1--144. Text by N.S.R. Chamfort, C. Fauchet, F.X. Pagès, P.L. Ginguené. Sometimes also attributed to P.A.M. Miger. The first two volumes contain preliminary discourses and a chronological series of engraved historical tableaux; vol. III contains the text of the five constitutions and other documents and engraved portraits and biographical anecdotes of sixty-six chief actors of the Revolution. The last 4 pp. of vol. III summarise the work, which was issued in 113 livraisons of two engravings and "deux Discours d'environ quatre pages" or three engraved portraits, each costing 6 francs, concluding with an advertisement for the Tableaux historiques des campagnes d'Italie (1806, q.v.), available from the same publisher.

Copy Notes Purchased by Soane from Boydell & Self for £42 on 30 September 1811 (see Soane Museum Archive, Box 16: Unnumbered Receipts, 'Office Accounts'). With letter to Soane from Martin Saurin dated 2 juin 1831 describing a copy with first proofs of the engravings and Napoleon's coronation dans très peu d'exemplaires excessivement rares.

Binding C19th diced russia, gilt and blind-tooled floral borders, gilt-tooled spines, marbled edges.
