Translated from the German of Sebastian Brant's Narrenschiff into Latin by Jacob Locher. 'Salutifera' in the title is a misprint for 'Stultifera'; 'Grant' in the title is a misprint for 'Brant'. Signatures: a-t

Copy Notes Imperfect; wanting final blank leaf u4. Printed label attached to first pastedown 'Mr Butler was so charmed with the wit, humour, and felicity of invention, which pervades the Stultifera Navis that he caused the author's portrait to be engraved. No impressions have yet been taken from it'. Inscribed in ink on verso of free-endpaper in a C18th or early C19th hand Editio princeps, and on the title-page in a different hand 1488. Front pastedown inscribed in ink 10 ye. Early inscription in ink on the woodcut of the crucifixion on leaf XCVII.

Binding C16th(?) limp vellum laced case with protective flaps at the fore-edge, two pairs of ties (missing), ink-lettered spine-titles in two different hands, dated '1488', 19th century green morocco spine-label, gilt-lettered 'Brandt's / Salutifera / Navis'.
