[Egyptian monuments in the British Museum]
Egyptian monuments. [No. 1--4.]
London (Place), published by Longman, Hurst, Rees & Orme, T. Medland and W. Millar,, [1805--1807].
[16] col. aquatint pl. ; 60.5 x 45.0 cm. (obl. 1°)

Plates by Thomas Medland after William Alexander, assistant keeper of antiquities at the British Museum. Originally intended to be complete in ten parts according to an early undated prospectus (q.v.), expanded in a later edition of the prospectus to twelve parts (q.v.); in the event, however, only five parts (21 plates) were issued. The Soane copy as described is made up of the first four parts each consisting of 4 plates and each in its original brown paper wrappers printed with the title of the first number as given above; numbers 2--4 have the part numbers supplied in ink. The plates in part I are dated Feb. 1st. 1805; those in subsequent parts are variously dated 1805, 1806 and 1807: August 1st. 1807 being the latest date. The parts cost 18 shillings each. The antiquities shown were acquired by the British Museum in 1802.

Copy Notes The first two parts were bought in October 1805, and the fourth on 24 November 1807 from Robert Scholey. (Spiers Box Misc. Booksellers; 'not out' on 25 July 1806; see Archives 16/12/34).

Binding The four parts stitched in original C19th publisher's printed grey paper wrappers, later stitched together with brown paper spine-covering.
