The preface is signed in ink T. Astle. Thomas Astle was commissioner for regulating public records at Westminster; royal commissioner for methodizing state papers at at Whitehall; chief clerk and later keeper of the records in the Tower of London. Includes an appendix containing abstracts of several identures of covenant between the King and the Abbot, Prior and Convent of Westminster for certain places by H. Wanley. ESTC t127509.

Copy Notes Bound last with two short works by O. Orlandi, Ragionamento ... sopra una ara antica, 1772 (q.v.) and Osservazioni ... sopra un sacro cameo antico, 1773 (q.v.).

Binding C18th half calf, gilt-ruled spine, marbled-paper boards, red spine label lettered 'Tracts', later numbered '19' in a series of pamphlet volumes.
