London: printed by W. Bulmer and Co., for Lunn, Oxford-Street, and Egerton, Whitehall, 1801.

Atwood developed his theory of arch construction in connection with a proposal for the improvement of the Port of London, which included an ambitious design submitted in 1800 by James Douglass and Thomas Telford for a new London Bridge.
