The tenth volume in Britton's Cathedral antiquities series. Though 'Peterborough' was announced in 1815 to follow 'York', 1819 (q.v.) and promised in 'Wells', 1824 (q.v.) to be completed by January 1826, it did not appear until the spring of 1828. Plates numbered I--XVI (pl. III and VIII misnumbered V and VII), including title-plate, pl. XII and frontispiece, pl. VII. BAL, Early printed books, no. 406.

Copy Notes Large paper copy with a full set of proof plates and 8 proofs before letters. It is bound (3) with the previous two volumes in the series, The history and antiquities of ... Wells, 1824 (q.v.) and The history and antiquities of ... Exeter, 1826 (q.v.).

Binding C19th half brown goatskin, gilt-ruled borders, gilt double-rule spine direct-lettered in gilt, marbled-paper boards. Bound as vol. [III] '1824--28' of a four-volume set of 'Britton's / Cathedral / Antiquities.'
