The plates are numbered I--XII with bis plates IV*, V*; plate II is used as the title-plate. This volume, the eighth in Britton's Cathedral antiquites series, was largely researched and probably written by Britton's friend E.W. Brayley. The advertisement of the series published so far, called for in the preface, was presumably printed on leaf S2 and cancelled in copies bound up in a complete set, as here. BAL, Early printed books, no. 408.

Copy Notes A large paper copy with a full set of proof plates and 11 proofs before letters. It is bound (1) with the next two volumes in the series, The history and antiquities of ... Exeter, 1826 (q.v.) and The history and antiquities of ... Peterborough, 1828 (q.v.).

Binding C19th half brown goatskin, gilt-ruled borders, gilt double-rule spine direct-lettered in gilt, marbled-paper boards. Bound as vol. [III] '1824--28' of a four-volume set of 'Britton's / Cathedral / Antiquities.'
