First published in 1726. Engraved throughout, including a title-plate in French and Italian, dedication, preface and descriptive text to each of the eight suites devoted to a different villa or palace. Of the six tomes planned, only the present volume was initially published, describing Brignano, Belgioiso, Cinisello, Isola Bella, Merate, Oreno, Robecco and Simonetta. A second edition appeared in 1743 containing three of the eight suites published here and nine further suites.
Copy Notes Imperfect; wanting 3 additional plates of Simonetta called for in the text. Purchased from Priestley and Weale's Catalogue of books on architecture, 1831, item 177, '£2.2s.' (q.v.).
Binding C19th quarter red goatskin, gilt double-ruled spine, marbled-paper boards.
