Dumont, an architect, chiefly specialised in publishing collections of engravings mostly based on his own architectural drawings and those of other artists such as Jean-Laurent Legeay and François de Neufforge. Around 1770 these were brought together in the present collected edition in three volumes; as stated in the engraved 'Catalogue' bound at the end of each volume following an engraved 'Extrait des Registres des délibérations de la Compagnie de Mrs. les Architectes' dated 17 August 1766, the constituent suites continued to be available separately and indeed the precise content of some of the suites does not seem to have been fixed as copies show minor variations within the number of feuilles (or leaves of plates) indicated in the 'Catalogue'. Millard I, 66; Berlin Kat. 2416.

See separate entries for further details of the individual suites which are bound in the order given in the 'Catalogue', as follows:
[Tome I:] 1.

Copy Notes The three volumes were bought from Josiah Taylor for 9 guineas on 3 November 1814. (Archive 7A/15/30). The Soane copy like the Millard and Berlin copies is without the engraved general title-plate to tome I, probably as issued; those to tomes II and III are inscribed in pencil Tome 1er. (2er.). Two elevations in suite 10, Suite de divers morceaux d'architecture (q.v.) are squared up in pencil, probably by Soane. The influence that Dumont's engraved works had upon him has yet to be explored.

Binding C18th mottled sheep, blind triple-ruled borders, gilt-tooled spines with floral motifs, red and black spine-labels gilt-lettered 'Recueil D'Archit De Dumont', numbered 'Tom I (II, III)'.
