Signed J.W.L.G., probably John Lewis Guillemard (1764--1844) who was elected Fellow of the Royal Society in January 1806, when Humphrey Davy was one of his sponsors. Soane was elected in November 1821, the year this work was published. The author complains of the inhospitable treatment of visitors to private houses, etc. and the difficulties of gaining access to the reading room at the British Museum, and is critical of the teaching at the Royal Academy.

Copy Notes Inscribed in ink on title-page Mr Soane Esqre from ye author/ (omitted to be sent before by mistake). Bound in a volume of miscellaneous pamphlets.

Binding C19th blue paper boards, brown paper spine lettered in ink 'Miscel-/Laneous// Fulchers/ Hints// Pont-Noir// On Brick/ Bond &c./ B[?]'. Later numbered '90' in a series of pamphlet volumes.
