The work was issued in livraisons, 24 in each volume. Volume I, part ii has a separate title-page dated 1811; the title-pages to vol. II, pt i and ii are dated 1812 and 1820 respectively. The two parts of vol. II are described as forming vols. III and IV. In this copy the last two plates of vol. II, pt. ii, pls [LXXI] and [LXXII] - physical and political maps of Spain and Portugal - which are not assigned numbers in the descriptive text but are included in the final list of plates, are bound at the front of vol. Copy Notes Soane bought the 24 livraisons constituting vol. I from John Britton for £36 on 14 November 1814 (Archives 4/6/55) and the 24 constituting vol. II also from Britton for £28 (less £2 15s. discount) in January 1823 (Priv. Corr. XVI.E.5.7). Bound in two volumes.

Binding C19th calf, gilt broad double-rule panels on upper and lower covers, gilt-tooled flat bands and spine compartments, gilt-tooled fore-edges, gilt edges. Bound by T & W Boone for 8 guineas on 12 February 1823. (Priv. Corr. XVI.E.4.7).
