Pitt, who earlier had been a fellow student with Soane studying surveying at Mr Nelson's in Park Lane (Priv. Corr. VI.K.3.3), was embroiled in litigation with the managers of the New Street Establishment, concerned with Nash's plan for Regent Street (q.v.). A prospectus for the first part was sent to Soane by the author on 21 September 1818 (q.v.).

Copy Notes Unopened. With a letter to Soane from the author dated 14th July 1820, requesting him to purchase the work and pleading for work for himself and his eldest son who was a student at the Royal Academy.
