The first edition was published surreptitiously in Geneva in 1723 with the title: La ligue ou Henry le Grand: poëme epique. The first edition sanctioned by the author was published in London in 1728; this revised edition was published in the same year. In this issue, the ornament on p. 200 has a female goddess within a frame of stylised foliage; a different issue has Mercury. ESTC t197409.
Copy Notes Bound (1) with An enquiry whether a general practice of virtue tends to the wealth or poverty, benefit or disadvantage of a people?, 1725 (q.v.), attributed to Thomas Bluett or George Blewitt. Inscribed in pencil on verso of front free-endpaper 2 Pieces for --3s--.
Binding C18th quarter sheep, grey paper boards, black spine-label lettered 'Pamphlets'. Later numbered '91' in a series of pamphlet volumes.
