First published anonymously in 1814. The author's father, John White (c. 1747--1813), was surveyor to the Duke of Portland, and a successful developer of the Portland estates in Marylebone. He submitted three plans for Marylebone Park, one of which, dated 1809, is published here (pl. I). The present 'Second Edition' is largely a reissue of of the sheets of the first edition with the addition of a new preface, appendices VII-IX and new plates; appendix VI has been reset. The Soane copy includes three plates of sewers (the first with two impressions) not called for in the 'Directions To The Binder', p. [iii] or recorded in BAL 3624, but present in other copies on the evidence of Lowndes, The bibliographer's manual of English literature ... Part X (new ed., 1865), p. 2900 which lists '10 folded plans'. BAL, Early printed books, no. 3624.

Copy Notes Bought from James Moyes for 10s. 7d., 24 June 1818. (Priv. Corr. XVI.E.3.5). Bound (1), probably as issued, with Brief remarks on the proposed Regent's Canal, by an observer, 1812 (q.v.). Inscribed in ink on front paste-down with mathematical figures and the date April 1818.
