There are two variant title-pages with different imprints; the Soane copy as described here probably represents the original issue (see also the copy in the Spencer Collection, New York Public Library). The first variant represented by the Fowler copy has the date given as 'MCDCCXI.' and additional line of imprint 'In Bologna Appresso L'Avtore'; the second variant represented by the Library of Congress and Peabody Library copies have the additional line 'In Bologna Appresso I Longhi'. The plates in the Soane copy are mostly in an unnumbered state with the first six bearing numbers in the form 'Rame Primo (-Sesto) and the plates to parts III and IV (on perspective) numbered consecutively 'Rame 1 (-24)' with an unnumbered plate between pl. 14 and 15. In later states the 72 plates bear consecutive numbers bottom right, 1--70 with bis plates 11 and 38, and some additionally have page or location numbers added at the top. In the Soane copy, which has the plates bound in a separate volume, the plates are numbered in manuscript with page numbers in the form 'F. 110'. A duodecimo version was published in 1731--1732 as Direzioni a' giovani studenti nel disegno dell'architettura civile (q.v.): see notes to BAL, Early printed books, no. 1164. Fowler 134; Berlin Kat. 2628.
