Satire. The 'Conclusion' at the end of part 2 is signed 'The Defender'. The title of part 2 reads 'A Catalogue Raisonné ... Part Second'. An anonymous spoof catalogue of the exhibition held at the British Institution; attributed to Robert Smirke in BM. Gen Cat., vol. 15, p. 831. The preface refers to the undated 'Catalogue of last year', presumably that published under the title A catalogue raisonée [sic] of the pictures now exhibiting at the British Institution, ... [1815?] (q.v.).

Copy 4: 26.5 cm. 'Part Second' only. Loosely inserted at the end of the volume containing Soane copy 3. Untrimmed. Inscribed on title-page in pencil 60. fr 76.
Binding Copy 1: C19th half calf, marbled-paper boards, gilt double-rule spine, black spine-label lettered 'Epistle To The Emperor of China &c &c.', numbered '33' in a series of pamphlet volumes.
Copy 2: C19th calf, blind triple-ruled borders, blind-tooled spine, gilt-lettered 'Catalogue Raisonée', numbered '25' in a series of sale catalogues.
Copy 3: C19th half calf, marbled-paper boards, gilt double-ruled spine, red morocco spine-label. Later numbered '27' in a series of sale catalogue volumes.
Copy 4: Stab-stitched.
