First published in 1777; there were three editions within the year. The verso of the dedication advertises other works by the man-midwife and physician to the Westminster Lying-In Hospital John Leake, including the third edition of his Practical observations on the acute diseases incident to women, containing observations on the child-bed fever which were appended to later editions of the present work (q.v.).
