'Chaplain to the Mayoralty' = Robert Crawford Dillon. Thomas Emsworth was mayor of Oxford in 1825--26 and laid on lavish entertainment for William Venables, Lord Mayor of London whose journey was designed to combine a review of the civic prerogatives and jurisdiction of the City of London over the Thames as far as Staines with an excursion to Oxford.

Copy Notes One copy was bought from T. & W. Boone for 7s. 6d. on 19 April 1827 and another for the same price on 12 May 1827, but only one copy survives in Soane's library. (Priv. Corr. XVI.E.6.12).

Binding C19th publisher's red cloth, brown leather spine-label, gilt-lettered.
