Translation of Über die Einsamkeit, originally published in German in 1784. Translated from the French edition of J.B. Mercier; an English translation had first been published in 1779. Zimmerman was physician to George III. The five engraved plates and engraved title-vignette are by William Ridley after John Kirk; the final leaf advertises books printed for Vernor and Hood. ESTC t93803.

Binding C19th red straight-grained morocco, gilt-ruled borders, gilt-ruled spine with small floral tool, gilt-lettered, gilt edges, blue silk bookmark.
