This illustrated translation of Zimmerman's Über die Einsamkeit, 1784, from the French of J.B. Mercier was first published in 1797 (q.v.). Zimmerman was physician to George III. Wood-engraved title-page vignette of a bee-hive captioned 'Associated', wood-engraved tail-pieces. The final six pages contain a list of new books printed for Vernor and Hood. ESTC t139468.

Copy Notes Inscribed in ink on first free-endpaper J: Soane / Ex dono amicii / Gul: Wodsworth A.B: / Coll: Pemb: / 1806. John Soane junior was admitted to Trinity College in May 1804 and transferred to Pembroke in April 1806. Wodsworth, born at Balasore where his father was "Resident", was a scholar at Pembroke College and became rector at St Peter's, Sandwich (1811--20) and Chaplain to Lord Palmerston.

Binding Early C19th marbled calf, gilt-tooled spine with fillets and central sunburst motif, dark green leather spine-labels reading 'Zimmerman On Solitude' and 'Vol. I.'
