First published in 1825. Some thirty editions in all appeared in that year alone, making a comfortable fortune for the writer, a notorious courtesan. The publisher exacted fees from gentlemen wishing to have details of their involvements with Mrs Wilson removed. The Duke of Wellington's riposte to this blackmail was "to publish and be damn'd".
Copy Notes Imperfect; wanting vol. IV; also wanting the half-title in vol. II, and the title-page in vol. III.
Binding C19th green half calf, blind triple-ruled borders, brown paper boards, gilt and blind triple-ruled spines, black and red spine-labels. Three volumes bound by Hood & McCullock for 5s. 6d., 4 June 1829. (Archives 7/10/24). Previously stab-stitched.
