Translation of the French version of Antoine Galland which was published originally in 1704--08, and was first translated into English in 1712. The engravings are by James Neagle, James Fittler, James Heath and other A.R.A.s. The originals, '... the celebrated series from the Arabian Nights, by Smirke', were offered for "sale by auction, by Mr. Christie, at his Great Room, Pall Mall, on Saturday, May the 23d, 1807" (sale catalogue, q.v.).

Copy Notes Bought from Thomas Boone on 12 July 1815 for £2.2.0. (7/6/51). With Boone's original price 5 Vols 2.10.0- inscribed in pencil on vol. I front free-endpaper. A folded strip of newspaper inserted as a bookmark at p. 52 of vol. V, the beginning of 'The History Of Baba Abdalla, The Blind Man.'.

Binding C19th sprinkled calf, gilt-tooled spines with neoclassical ornament, black leather spine-labels.
