'Jacquetta Agneta Mariana Jenks' is the pseudonym used by William Beckford in this burlesque of contemporary sentimental novels. With a fictional dedication to Lady Harriet Marlow, "author" of Modern novel writing, or, the elegant enthusiast, another parody by Beckford published in the previous year. ESTC n5285.

Copy Notes Imperfect; wanting the half-title to vol. I. The volume number on the title-page of vol. I is overwritten in ink. Cypher in pencil on the front pastedown of vol. II.
