'The Author Of The Peerage And Baronetage Charts, &c'. = William Kingdom. 'The rapid sale and acknowledged utility of the various "Dictionaries of Quotations" from the Latin, French, and other foreign languages, and in particular of that so able compiled by Mr. Macdonnel, ... naturally suggested the idea of a similar work in English.' (Preface). Contents: Part the first: Shakspeare; Part the second: Blank verse; Part the third: Rhyme. Four pages of publisher's advertisements after p. 276; this is followed by twelve leaves of Appendix containing references to quotations whose utility 'did not occur to the compiler until several of the sheets were printed, or they would have been embodied with the work.'

Copy Notes Imperfect; wanting the half-title to vol. I. Bought for 18s. from Whittaker, Treacher & Arnot, 6 May 1829. (Priv. Corr. XVI.E.6.24). Inscribed in ink on half-title of vol. II 7s in boards and on the title-page of vol. III 7/6 in boards.

Binding C19th half calf, marbled-paper boards, gilt-ruled spine, black morocco spine-label, gilt-lettered. Bound by Edwin Hutchinson for 3s. 9d., 13 June 1829. (Priv. Corr. XVI.E.6.29). Uniform with an edition of Macdonnel's A dictionary of quotations, in most frequent use, G. and W.B. Whittaker, 1826 (q.v.).
