First published in New York, 1819--20; first London edition, 1820. A work of travel fiction interspersed with stories influenced by German folk tales, including 'Rip Van Winkle' and 'The Legend of Sleepy Hollow'.

Copy Notes Possibly the 'Sketch Book. 2 V bd' bought from Ogle, Duncan & Co. per James Moyes for 12s. on 16 April 1823. (Spiers Box, Miscellaneous booksellers).

Binding Later C19th half dark blue morocco, blind-tooled borders, marbled-paper boards, gilt double-ruled spines, gilt-lettered.
