Anonymous. By Laurence Howel. Text first published in 1712. Engraved throughout. 88 copper engravings by John Sturt. Each leaf comprises an engraved border enclosing engraved text; the text and the borders were separately imposed. The leaves in the Soane copy are mostly pasted together back-to-back to form pages printed on both sides. Copies may not always have the same border surrounding a particular page of text; this copy has single cherubs blowing horns at each side of the border of p. IX. The two final leaves contain a list of subscribers. ESTC t119687.
Copy Notes In the Soane copy the initial leaf of dedication is misbound between pages IV and V; pp. 13--14 are misbound with p. 14 facing p. 12; and the list of subscribers at the end is misbound.
Binding C18th black morocco, boards with Harleian-style gilt-tooled borders and centrepieces, gilt-tooled spine, without spine label or lettering.
