First edition. The dedication and preface were written a few weeks before the author's death on 13 November 1787 (see p. [vii]); the memoir is by his son Henry, a barrister. A third volume appeared in 1790. Henry Stebbing (1716--1787) is not to be confused with his father, also Henry Stebbing (1687--1763). ESTC t117374.
