Lugt 5062. Half-title reads 'A Catalogue of M. De Calonne's Effects, Piccadilly'. De Calonne served as comptroller-general of finances under Louis XVI from 1783--87 but his measures to restore national finances met the opposition of both King and the Assembly of Notables of 1787. He was exiled to Lorraine but settled in London where following the Revolution he devoted his energies and fortunes to the Emigré party and was the butt of controversial exchanges with his rival Jacques Necker and others. ESTC t27564.

Copy Notes Ornamental pencil sketch on half-title; extensive annotations and prices in pencil (some cropped by the binder) against lots in the first two days sale, mostly prices but including the name of Mr. Pilton Piccadilly, and against the books on the last day of the sale, including an architectural doodle on p. 113. Bound (1) in a collection of sale catalogues.

Binding Later C19th half green binder's cloth, marbled-paper boards, numbered '13' in a series of sale catalogue volumes.
