Drop-head title at start of catalogue reading 'Catalogue of the Works of British Artists Placed in the Gallery of the British Institution, Pall-Mall, For Exhibition and Sale. 1808'. Catalogue signed 'Valentine Green, A.R.A. Keeper'. Includes a list of subscribers, and an index of exhibitors. At foot of imprint: 'Price Sixpence'. The British Institution was formed in 1805 to 'open a public exhibition for the sale of the productions of British artists, to excite the emulation and exertions of younger artists by premiums, and to endeavour to form a public gallery of the works of British artists, with a few select specimens of each of the great schools.' It held two exhibitions each year, one of the old masters, the other of contemporary art.

Binding Later C19th half calf, brown ribbed morocco-grain binder's cloth boards, gilt-dotted and blind-ruled spine, black spine-label. Numbered '15' in a series of sale catalogue volumes.
