Lugt 13374. George Bailey, Soane's assistant and later first curator of the Museum, attended the sale presumably on Soane's behalf, and is recorded in the marked up copy of sale catalogue in Christie's archive as the purchaser of three lots: lot 37, 'A design for a ceiling in the Borghese Palace by Asprucci; the Mosaic pavement in the Vatican; and the entrance to the Borghese Palace' for 19s.; lot 122, 'A large scrap-book with leaves', for 6s.; and lot 122*, 'The original drawings for the work of the Pilasters of the Vatican', for £21. The presentation copy from the Duke of Bedford of Outline engravings and descriptions of the Woburn Abbey marbles, 1822 (q.v.), lot 87 of the second day's sale, is in Soane's library and was evidently bought by him from the bookseller Priestley who purchased it for £13. (See marked up copy of sale catalogue in Christie's archive.) In total Soane paid £37 for 'Sundries at Mr Tatham's Sale'. (Ledger E, 11 July 1833).
