Lord Mendip's villa at Twickenham had formerly been Alexander Pope's villa, purchased by Sir William Stanhope in 1744 and settled on his daughter Elizabeth, first wife of Welbore Ellis, Lord Mendip. The villa was bought by Sir John Briscoe in 1802. Soane was a buyer at the sale on the same day of Mendip's collection of art objects (q.v.).

Copy 1: Some pencil annotations, and ink inscription Saturday on docket-title.
Copy 2: Calculation in ink on title-page.
Binding Later C19th marbled-paper boards, ribbed morocco-grain cloth spine gilt-lettered 'Sale Catalogues'. 37.6 cm. Later numbered '48' in a series of sale catalogue volumes.
