Drop-head title from p. [1]. Dated at the end 'Belle Vue House, Chelsea, March 8, 1836'. With a half-title reading 'On The Spikenard Of The Ancients.' The lithographed frontispiece of Nardus indica by C. Hullmandel is reproduced from the Philosophical Transactions for the year 1790, p. 292. Hatchett, son of a coachmaker, maintained the family business after a successful career as a chemist and, as a long-term resident of Chelsea, was well-known as a collector of books and paintings, and as a musician.
